Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Gary Davies, now 66, has opened up about his blissful marriage to Joongjai “JJ” Bhumichitr Davies, revealing rare details about their life together in London.
The veteran broadcaster, who now hosts “Sounds of the 80s” on BBC Radio 2, found love in an unexpected place.
“I met my wife JJ at a villa party in Thailand. We come back every year for three weeks to see the family, her granny’s going to be 101 this year,” Davies shared in a 2023 interview with the Daily Mirror.
While the radio legend maintains a relatively private personal life, he occasionally shares glimpses of their relationship on social media.
“There are pictures of me and JJ together on Instagram. I certainly don’t hide my private life, but I only post about it on Instagram when I feel it’s relevant,” he explained, adding, “Social media is important, as it’s a great way to communicate. I’m just not one of those people who wants to post about my life five times a day.”
Previous Marriage
Before finding happiness with JJ, Davies was married to Iranian heiress Lisa Tchenguiz throughout the 1990s.
Their 11-year marriage ended amicably in 2001, with no children from the union.
Tchenguiz later married businessman Vivian Imerman, though that marriage ended in a highly publicized divorce in 2013.
Current Family Life
While Gary and JJ don’t have children together, they dote on their cavapoo, Chilli, who even has a dedicated Instagram account featuring their family adventures, walks, and celebrations.
Speaking about his current relationship, Davies simply stated that JJ “makes me very happy.”
